CHILDREN'S BIBLE STORIES
(for Grown-Ups)
Are you struggling to reconcile the simple Bible stories of your youth with your adult understanding of faith?
Feeling unsettled by the ethical complexities in these familiar tales?
Searching for deeper meaning beyond literal interpretations?
Picture yourself revisiting beloved Bible stories with fresh, mature eyes; uncovering profound insights that speak to your adult faith journey; and grappling honestly with difficult passages and emerging with a richer, more nuanced understanding of Scripture.
In six engaging lessons, you'll journey through familiar stories like Noah's Ark, David and Goliath, and Jonah, seeing them in a whole new light.
“These studies are great if you are in the 'messy middle' as you can learn and ponder on some new concepts and process them. The lessons aren’t time consuming but full of great nuggets of truth and I have relearned some core concepts and ideas that line up to my new faith journey.”
— Lynnea
“After putting my Bible aside due to church trauma, Kate’s studies have allowed me to return to it. Her gentle demeanor, compassion for others, and love for the Bible is evident in every study.”
— Andrea
Each lesson combines 4 threads to help you get a full picture of the passage.
Take a closer look at the genre, characters, and surrounding context (and pull threads from other parts of Scripture as well).
Learn a couple of words in the original language to help you see how the grammar and vocabulary aid in understanding.
Discover the historical and cultural context clues that shed light on the details of the story
Encounter views from a variety of scholars of varying locations, backgrounds, and specializations to discover how they apply the text in their unique context
Weave the threads together to understand the passage and its implications for our lives
(and I believe in reading the Bible literarily more than literally)
As I deconstructed, I realized that so much of what I learned had been built on out-of-context verses or American cultural ideas (and ideals).
I’ve since earned a master’s degree in biblical studies, and I love uncovering connections in the Bible, discovering insights about the history and culture, and finding new ways to view Scripture outside of the literalist lens.
One of my greatest joys is teaching the Bible, and these studies are built with you – the curious post-evangelical who is looking for a safe way to connect with Scripture again.
